Losers Can Be Winners: Bad Beat Jackpots
It’s not uncommon to lose a hand of online poker ; it happens to the best of us. Some sites, however, feel that bad beats are something that shouldn’t be stigmatized and that players that play the game by the rules shouldn’t be crippled for making the right decision. One such site is UltimateBet, where bad beat jackpot tables offer players a shot at a massive cash payout for hitting the right cards at the wrong time.
If you are playing poker at one of the select tables at UltimateBet, you’re eligible for a cash payout if you lose while holding Quad Eights of Better. Each hand of poker played at these tables means that the jackpot grows a bit more. UltimateBet collects $0.50 from the pot of each raked hand that is raked $0.25 or more. The $0.50 is then added to the Jackpot. How much can that mean is up for grabs?
Well, as of this writing, the Bad Beat Jackpot at UltimateBet is over $230,000 and is growing every minute.
Now, let’s say you’re playing at one of the bad beat jackpot tables and you’re holding Quad 9s and somehow, through some divine intervetion, the guy across from you has a Royal Flush. (We’re working with the assumption that you’ve played a great hand and there’s no way that 10, Queen and Ace of hearts on the board could bite you in the back when you’re holding two 9s and there’s two on the board.)
You lose the hand. Your chips are disappearing into their stack. But - suddenly, you’re informed that you are a winner. You get your share of a huge jackpot, and so does everyone else playing at your table and at your stakes! How does it break down? 25% of the jackpot rolls into the next jackpot and 10% goes to the house for maintaining the bad beat jackpot pool. As the victim of that bad beat, you’ll receive 50% of the jackpot and the player that took your chips will get 25%. Each of the other players at the table will get $1000 and the rest is divided among everyone playing the same game type and stakes when the Bad Beat takes place, provided they meet the requirements of qualification.
Yeah, it’s that easy. There’s some very simple restrictions: you don’t qualify for a Bad Beat Jackpot unless you’re actually playing at a Bad Beat Jackpot table, etc, but it’s never been easier to win big for being a loser!
